滄龍～滄龍～聽起來就像是一種恐龍對不對？
Mosasaur, mosasaur…sounds like a dinosaur, right?
滄龍經常被誤認為是「在水裡的恐龍」或者「鱷魚的強化版」但其實滄龍根本不算是恐龍喔！恐龍在生物分類上屬於「主龍」，而滄龍則是屬於「鱗龍」，與蛇、蜥蜴為同屬一類，許多研究人員，根據鬆散如鉸鏈般頜部、縮退的四肢、可能的運動方式等特徵，認為蛇從滄龍類演化而來。所以千萬不要再戲稱他們為「強化版的鱷魚」、「縮小版的魚龍」囉！
Mosasaurs are frequently mistaken for “marine dinosaurs” or “enhanced crocodiles”, but in fact, they cannot be classified as dinosaurs at all. Taxonomically speaking, dinosaurs belong to the clade Archosauria, while mosasaurs are classified in the Lepidosauria clade–also including common reptiles such as snakes or lizards. Many researchers believe that snakes evolved from mosasaurs, citing evidence including their loose jaws, small limbs, and possible mode of movement. Next time, don’t call them “marine dinosaurs” or “enhanced crocodiles”!
另外，本館收藏的滄龍化石直接還原挖掘地現場，遺骸雖然散佈在四周，顯得有些凌亂，但呈現給您的是挖掘化石當下最真實的樣貌。科學家們在挖掘地四處尋找殘骸的辛苦可想而知，並不是所有生物化石都是完整排列等著科學家挖掘喔！
